We spent most of 2020 working from home, and we are expected to spend most of 2021 working from home as well. For some of us, this is no big deal; we have a separate room or den we can use as our home office. However, for those who live in small apartments, working from home has become a real challenge.
So, how can you get your job done while living in a small apartment? Here are some ways to get started:
Function over design
You won’t want to hear this, but you’ll likely have to sacrifice some of your interior décor for your workspace. You have to make do with what you have, and sometimes that means turning your kitchen table into a desk or getting rid of an accent chair to have space for your work equipment.
Noisy roommates or neighbors? Invest in noise-canceling headphones
An inescapable part of apartment life is living in close quarters with other people. Even if you technically live alone, you still have neighbors. To keep yourself focused, invest in some good noise-canceling headphones that will keep noise to a minimum.
Step outside and take a break
Even if you’re a total introvert, you will get sick of staying stuck inside the same 600 square-foot apartment day-in and day-out. Try to find some time in the day to get up, get outside, and take a break from your work. Plus, if your company offers flextime, consider taking some hours off to run out and do errands.
